One More Hurdle To Keep Nick Saban
Late Friday, The University of Alabama announced that it had reached agreement with Nick Saban to continue as head football coach of the Crimson Tide.
This little-mentioned note was at the end of the announcement:
"The agreement is subject to approval by the Compensation Committee of the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama System."
One would have to be the most paranoid Bama follower on the face of the earth to be concerned about this.
In one's imagination, this has to be the best committee one can serve on.
Chairman, "Ladies and gentlemen, we have before us a request from The University of Alabama Athletics Director Bill Battle to extend the contract of Nick Saban as head football coach and to adjust the compensation as requested. Any discussion?"
The Irksome One, "Ahem. Well, I want to be the first on record in support of this proposal and I would also like to add our appreciation..."
Chairman, "Pipe down.
"Can we all agree?
"I thought so.
"Now, we have a nice fois gras paté and fresh shrimp over by the bar.
Actually, it won't be that complicated. In fact, the committee probably won't even meet. There will be a brief conference call to make it official, and that's that.
The only thing one might want to change as a member of the Compensation Committee of the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama System is to actually meet and have the shrimp.
