Eight Looks Great In Early Enrollees
Alabama will have six freshmen straight from high schools and two junior college transfers who will begin classes Wednesday, go through the winter off-season program – the Fourth Quarter – and participate in spring football practice (probably late March through mid-April).
These eight will be joined by the rest of the 2014 signing class in the summer. Signing day for football is Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Two signees from national junior college champion East Mississippi in Scooba are among the early enrollees. They are defensive end/linebacker D.J. Pettway, 6-3, 255, four star, and defensive lineman Jarran Reed, 6-4, 325, four-star. Pettway has been much-publicized because he and three other Tide players had been dismissed from The University early last year and he was the only one who was give the opportunity to earn his way back. He is from Pensacola, Fla., and played at Catholic High. Reed Is from Goldsboro, N.C., and originally signed with Florida and had considered Ole Miss out of junior college.
From the high school ranks the Tide has added an offensive lineman, wide receiver, quarterback, linebacker, cornerback, and safety.
Joining a crowded quarterback field to take over for three-year starter A.J. McCarron is David Cornwell, 6-5, 230, four-star, from Norman, Okla., North High.
Three made the trek from Monroe, Louisiana. They are Cameron Robinson, 6-5, 330, West Monroe, a five-star and number one ranked offensive tackle in the nation; wide receiver Cameron Sims, 6-4, 200, four-star from Ouachita Parish High; and safety Laurence Jones (better known as Hootie Jones), 6-1, 210, four-star, Neville.
The only Alabamian in the early enroll group is inside linebacker Shaun Hamilton, 6-1, 240, Montgomery Carver three-star.
Tony Brown, 6-1, 185, Ozen High in Beaumont, Texas, is a five-star and the top-ranked cornerback prospect in nation.
