Unconfirmed Reports Say Kiffin On Board
Nevertheless, who could doubt that Alabama was going to hire Lane Kiffin, former head coach at Tennessee and USC and a consultant to the Crimson Tide prior to the Sugar Bowl game this year?
The job of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Bama became open this week when Doug Nussmeier accepted the same position at Michigan after two years at Alabama.
There was reaction – mostly adverse – from Alabama fans when it was learned that Kiffin was consulting with the Crimson Tide in December. That stemmed not from any knowledge of Kiffin's offensive football acumen, but rather from his seemingly petulant personality.
Asked about Kiffin, Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban said, "Lane is a really good offensive coach, and I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for him.
"And I don't know why there is any reaction to it. I'm really quite surprised."
There were numerous reports, none naming a real human source, that Kiffin interviewed with Saban on Thursday.
