Alabama Basketball Plays At Georgia
Alabama (7-7 overall) will be on the road Saturday to take on Georgia (7-6) at 4 p.m. EST (3 p.m. central time). The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
Alabama owns a 93-47 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1921-22 season. The Tide has an all-time record of 32-29 when playing Georgia in Athens. In recent history, the Tide has won five consecutive games over the Bulldogs, including winning both contests the teams played last season. Bama also has captured two consecutive games over Georgia when playing at Stegeman Coliseum.
Bama will be looking for its first win of the season away from home. Bama is 7-2 in Coleman Coliseum, but 0-5 in games away from Tuscaloosa.
Alabama is in uncharted territory following the Tide's 68-63 win over Vanderbilt in Coleman Coliseum. It was the first time this year Bama had won a game decided by five or fewer points. Alabama's seven losses all have been by 10 or fewer points, a combined total of 39 points (5.6 per game). The Tide's non-conference schedule was ranked fourth most difficult in the nation as its losses came at the hands of teams with a combined record of 83-24.
Alabama is led by All-SEC guard Trevor Releford, who is averaging 18.3 points per game, which ranks sixth in the SEC. Releford has connected on 51 per cent of his shots from the floor and 41 per cent on three-pointers and also averages 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.
The Bulldogs are likely to remember Releford from the final regular season game of last season. On Senior Day in Tuscaloosa, Releford hit a half court three-point shot to give the Tide a 61-58 win. In the first game last year, Rodney Cooper led Bama to a 52-45 win in Athens with 14 points and five rebounds.
Guard Retin Obasohan is averaging 13 points per game and leads the SEC and is 10th nationally with 2.7 steals per game. The 6-1 sophomore, often the shortest man on the court, leads the Tide in blocked shots per game, 1.2, and also leads Bama in free throws, 68-91.
Levi Randolph is also in double figures for Bama at 10 points per game. The junior guard also averages 4.4 rebounds per game.
Alabama hits 46.4 per cent from the floor, including 34.5 per cent on three-point shots.
Although the Alabama lineup changes regularly, true freshman Shannon Hale is more and more a presence on the court. The 6-8 forward has made a solid contribution for Coach Anthony Grant's squad over the past four games he has scored 45 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, averaging 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in that recent span. During the run he has made 17-27 field goals (63 per cent) and 5-11 three-point shots (45.5 per cent). He scored a career high 15 points with 6-8 from the field in the win over Vanderbilt.
