Smith snags Tide offer

Alabama has been trying to close out the class of 2014 of late, but it's not slowing on the nation's top juniors in the process. The No. 5 2015 middle linebacker prospect on Scout, Roquan Smith, learned of his Crimson Tide offer on Tuesday and reacts to the news inside.

"'Bama offered me," Roquan Smith said. "It's a big offer, man, from a national power house.

"It's just a huge offer from a dynasty program and I'm blessed and humble to have the offer."

Despite Nick Saban's staff "just recently" getting in contact with the Montezuma (Ga.) Macon County High four-star linebacker, Smith admits that he plans on visiting Tuscaloosa "soon." Area-recruiter and Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart envisions the junior on the outside.

"They like me as a WILL 'backer," he said. "I'm explosive, athletic, (have) speed and a killer attitude.

"And leadership, also blue-collar type."

At 6-foot-2, 204 pounds, Smith has attracted several top programs of late, holding offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and UCLA among others in addition to Alabama.

The growing list may be bogged down come summertime.

"I'm going to have a top five by the end of school," he said. "Probably in May or June

"I'm kind of wide open."

Though excited, Smith is humble in dealing with all of the added attention he's received since the fall, only likely to increase after the current senior class signs on the dotted line next month.

"I'm just a humble guy and so thankful for the things God has blessed me with in my life," he said.

Scout currently pegs Smith as the No. 5 middle linebacker prospect in the class of 2015, and the No. 145 prospect in the class regardless of position.
