Tide Softball Sixth In Another Poll

Coach Patrick Murphy's Alabama softball team will start the 2014 season ranked sixth in the nation in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

Alabama also placed sixth in the preseason NFCA/USA Today poll released last week and was voted to finish third in the Southeastern Conference in the preseason coaches poll.

Tennessee is the preseason favorite in the ESPN/USA Softball poll, finishing three points ahead of defending national champion Oklahoma. Eight SEC teams are ranked in the top 25, including No.1 Tennessee, No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Alabama, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 17 Missouri, No. 19 LSU and No. 21 Georgia.

Alabama and Tennessee do not meet in regular season play this season.

The Tide opens its season next weekend at the Troy Subway Invitational. Alabama will play five games over three days, beginning on Friday, Feb. 7 against Kennesaw State at 2:30 p.m. CST.
