Lewis recaps first Alabama visit

Leo Lewis picked up an offer from Alabama last month, and he's been a hot prospect for some time. He reciprocated Nick Saban's interest in him by visiting Tuscaloosa for junior day over the weekend.

Leo Lewis learned of his offer from the University of Alabama in mid-January, without ever visiting the campus, though he was excited for the news.

"I watched the University of Alabama on TV all the time, I'm a big fan of the Tide," he said. "I've watched them a lot, and talking to Nick Saban and hearing I have an offer meant a lot to me.

"He says I can fit in with the defense well right now, in the 3-4 scheme. He likes how I'm physical and my body type to be an inside backer."

Lewis, who checks in currently at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, feels that he can play any linebacker role in any defense. Saban re-iterated what he thought of him on Saturday, during Alabama's first big junior day of the year.

"It was great," he said. "The best part was talking to Coach Saban, he's a wonderful guy. He was great, he got straight to the point. No lacking around.

"They love me up there."

A potential future teammate also spent some time with him. Towards the end of the day, Reuben Foster spoke to his fellow linebacker about the culture in Tuscaloosa.

"He just told me to embrace it and if I decide to go there, it'll be apart of life, like a lifestyle," Lewis said.

The other part of the student-athlete life is an important one to the three-star out of Brookhaven (Miss.) High School.

"The academic thing, I want to major in engineering," he said. "I'm not sure what field, but I'm looking to that when I'm there."

Lewis, who holds scholarship offers from each in-state SEC school as well as Arkansas, also reported liking the new facilities on campus and Bryant-Denney Stadium.

Despite what he called a "great" trip, the junior is far from ending the recruiting process.

"I'm open to all schools at the moment," he said. "I'm not sure, but I want to push it as far as I can go with it. I want to get as many offers s I can. I want to take visits to other schools and get that experience.

"I'm going to try and make it to Florida for spring break and I know I'm going to a lot of places this summer. I'm going to Alabama's camp, no doubt about that, and probably the Mississippi State camp. I don't know after that."
