Alabama Gymnasts Continue Seventh

It's too early to panic. The Alabama gymnastics team has gone up against two top ten teams this year -- Nebraska in a neutral site and LSU on the road -- and come up with two losses. Moreover, there is more to come with five more top ten teams on the schedule, including fifth-ranked Georgia this week.

In gymnastics, early rankings are determined by total season average scores. Alabama continues in the number seven spot this week after posting a season-high road score in Baton Rouge last Friday with a 196.825.

Florida took over the top spot this week, leaping over Oklahoma, which is currently in second. LSU, Utah and the Tide's next opponent, Georgia, round out the top five. Michigan is No. 6, followed by the Crimson Tide, Nebraska, UCLA and Auburn.

This week's meet with Georgia marks the Tide's fourth consecutive top-10 showdown. The meet in Coleman Coliseum begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday. It will be Alumni Night. Tickets for the Tide's home meets and the SEC and NCAA Championships are on sale through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at

The Tide is fourth on the vault and balance beam, sixth on the uneven bars, and 13th on the floor exercise this week. Georgia comes into this Friday's "Battle of Champions" ranked No. 1 on the uneven bars.

Individually, senior Kim Jacob is ranked No. 14 in the all-around and No. 12 on the balance beam. Senior Diandra Milliner is No. 15 while senior Sarah DeMeo is No. 20 on the vault.
