Meadow Comeback Earns Medalist
It was the ninth career medalist honor for the senior Meadow, who now has three times more wins than any player in school history. She played the final two rounds in 8-under par and the final 51 holes of the 54-hole event in 9-under.
"The most encouraging thing I saw from Stephanie (Meadow) this weekend was after she made double bogey on two of her first three holes, she still came back and shot five under for the tournament – that is pretty impressive," Alabama Coach Mic Potter said. "She understands that she has to stay committed no matter what. She stays with the process all the way through and good things happen when you do that."
Alabama finished tied for sixth as a team at 29-over-par 893 after a 7-over 295 in the final round, which matched the lowest round of the day. Arkansas earned the team title at 3-over 867 with GRU Augusta (+17, 881) in second, followed by Northwestern (+22, 886), Auburn (+27, 891) and Georgia (+28, 892).
"I thought Cammie Gray was definitely a bright spot the first two days," Potter said. "Going in as the fifth player you would love to get 72-74 out of her, so she is improving. We just have to be more consistent and get more counting scores to go along with Stephanie and Cammie."
Gray, a redshirt freshman from Northport, finished as the Tide's No. 2 scorer in the 54-hole event, tying for 30th at 10-over 226. Her final round 80 did not count toward the team score Tuesday, but her 2-over total of 146 was a big boost for Alabama in the opening two rounds.
Janie Jackson rebounded in the final round with a 3-over 75 and finished tied for 63rd. Daniela Lendl and Emma Talley both carded 76s on Tuesday, leaving Lendl tied for 46th at 14-over 230 and Talley tied for 50th at 15-over 231.
The Crimson Tide return to the course this weekend for the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans.
