Alabama Women Tie For Fifth In NOLA
Alabama shot 3-over 291 in the final round to finish tied with Clemson. UCLA captured team honors at 21-under 843 while Southern California was second at 15-under 849. Florida finished third at 6-under 858 with Denver fourth at 2-over 866.
"We are not where I would like us to be, but we are identifying areas of weakness," Alabama Coach Mic Potter said after Tuesday's final round. "It is my job to make sure they improve so we have a lot of work to do."
Junior Danielle Lendl set the pace for the Crimson Tide with a career best in relation to par at 4-under 212, finishing in a tie for eighth. It was her second tournament under par this season after shooting 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
"Danielle really played great," Potter said. "Today she had the opportunity to go really low, just had a couple of birdie putts that just didn't go in. I am really beginning to expect (solid play) out of her, she is a good player. She has a lot of experience. If we can keep that level of competitiveness out of her that will really help our team."
Sophomore Emma Talley tied for 17th at even-par 216, carding a 72 in the final round. Senior Stephanie Meadow tied for 22nd, after posting a 1-over total of 217 that included a 74 in the final round.
Cammie Gray carded a 3-over 75 to count as the Tide's fourth score on Tuesday. Janie Jackson shot 76 in the final round and did not count toward the team total. Jackson finished tied for 58th at 8-over 224 and Gray tied for 77th at 15-over 229.
Competing as an individual, Hannah Collier shot 1-over 73 in the final round and tied for 45th at 6-over 221.
Next up for Alabama is a trip to the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on March 7-9, at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Beach, S.C. The Crimson Tide is the two-time defending champion at the Darius Rucker.
