UA Women's Swim Academic Champs
"Academics are obviously at the foundation of everything we do here at the University of Alabama," Alabama Coach Dennis Pursley said. "To be able to produce those kinds of grades and to have our women lead the nation, is consistent with our mission which is to build a culture of excellence that will enable the team and each individual on the team to achieve his or her full potential in the pool, in the classroom and in life."
The Alabama women posted a 3.60 team GPA in the fall, finishing .05 ahead of a trio of schools that tied for second place. The Tide men earned a 3.21 team GPA in the fall, which ranks them first in the Southeastern Conference and 25th among NCAA Division I schools. Both squads earned CSCAA Fall Scholar All-America Team recognition.
The Crimson Tide's latest honors comes on the heels of a blockbuster performance at last month's SEC Championships where Alabama broke 17 school records, earned 10 NCAA automatic standards and finished a combined eight spots better than the year before.
Alabama is now poised to send its largest contingent to the NCAA Championships in more than a decade with the women traveling to Minneapolis, Minn. March 20-22 and the men heading to Austin, Texas March 27-29.
