Meadow Is Leader In Women's Tourney
Two-time defending champion Alabama shot 9-over 293 and enter Saturday's second round in a tie with Vanderbilt, nine shots back of third-ranked Duke (E, 284). South Carolina is fourth at 10-over 294 and North Carolina is fifth (295). A trio of teams is tied for sixth at 13-over 297, including No. 4 Arkansas, No. 7 Stanford and No. 21 LSU.
"It was a tough day and the girls battled hard," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "They battled back when the round wasn't going as well and salvaged a score that put us in second place. We need to rely on our experience on this course and our ability the rest of the weekend. We have to take it one-shot at a time and go as low as we can."
Meadow, who won the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in 2012 and placed third last year, has a two-shot lead over Arkansas' Gaby Lopez and Duke's Celine Boutier and Yu Liu.
Meadow made a bogey on her second hole and then reeled off five birdies and 11 pars on her final 16 holes. In six career rounds at the Long Cove Club, Meadow has a 69.67 scoring average and is 8-under par.
Junior Daniela Lendl is tied for 22nd after finishing her round with a birdie on the 18th hole to shoot 3-over 74. Hannah Collier shot 75 and is tied for 32nd while Emma Talley's 77 was the Tide's fourth counting score. Mia Landegren's 79 was dropped from the team score on Friday.
The Crimson Tide is paired with Duke and Vanderbilt in the second round from the Long Cove Club on Saturday. The group will tee off at 8:30 a.m. (CST) on the first tee.
