SEC Gym Meet Has Nation's Best Teams

Think the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Championships meet in Birmingham might be competitive? This week's national rankings have Alabama ranked fourth in the nation and the Crimson Tide is third in the SEC.



The Alabama gymnastics team of Coach Sarah Patterson is coming off an impressive 197.925-196.175 victory over Auburn to close out regular season competition. That put the Crimson Tide in fourth place nationally heading into championship season.

There are three SEC teams in the top four, four in the top six, and six in the top 20.

Florida jumped to the top spot this week while LSU fell to No. 2 and Oklahoma remained at No. 3. With the Crimson Tide at No. 4, Utah is at No. 5 and Georgia at No. 6. UCLA and Michigan are seventh and eighth, respectively while Nebraska and Stanford round out the top 10.

Alabama is ranked third on the balance beam, fourth on the vault, sixth on the floor exercise, and eighth on the uneven bars.

Individually, senior Kim Jacob and freshman Katie Bailey are tied at No. 20 in the all-around this week. Jacob is also ranked 14th and freshman Aja Sims is 18th on the balance beam. Sophomore Lauren Beers is ranked seventh on the vault while senior Diandra Milliner is ninth.
