Key Transferring From Tide Basketball

A day after the announcement that Carl Engstrom will forego his final year of eligibility with the Alabama men's basketball team, Coach Anthony Grant revealed that upcoming senior guard Algie Key would be transferring from the Crimson Tide program. He also discussed an injury to Shannon Hale and the situation with recruiting and with Nick Jacobs.

Alabama Coach Anthony Grant also announced that upcoming soph forward Shannon Hale had suffered a broken foot. Upcoming senior forward Nick Jacobs is still suspended, but is working in Bama's strenth and conditioning off-season program.

Grant said that he had discussions with all potential returning players prior to spring break the last week in March and that he and his staff were aware of the plans of Carl Engstrom to finish his degree work and then go to Europe in hopes of playing basketball and that Algie Key wanted to find a place where he could get more consistent minutes of playing time.

Armed with that information, Grant said, "We've had an opportunity to go out and visit with some potential recruits and certainly looking to add some more pieces if possible.

Grant also announced that sophomore forward Shannon Hale suffered a broken foot in an accident while home for spring break. "He had successful surgery today," Grant said. "He's probably going to be non-weight bearing for the next four to six weeks and I would say probably a two-month recovery for him. But he should make a full recovery."

Grant also said that upcoming senior forward Nick Jacobs, who was suspended in the last month of the season and did not participate, is still in a "nothing's really changed" situation. Grant said, "He has resumed the strength and conditioning workouts with our team. He and I have met and talked. I think Nick understands the things that we need to continue to monitor and pursue as we move forward."
