Baseball, Softball On Top In SEC

The dust won't settle on this weekend's Southeastern Conference baseball and softball action until Sunday, although several teams fearing there would be mud rather than dust today elected to finish up weekend play on Saturday. In any event, Alabama is going to have the league's best records in both baseball and softball.

Alabama took two of three games from Texas A&M in a road baseball series to improve the Crimson Tide's SEC-leading baseball record to 8-4. The Crimson Tide softball team won three games from Arkansas and now has an SEC best record of 14-1.

Although four baseball games and three softball games are scheduled today, regardless of their outcomes (or even if they are played), Bama will have the best conference record in softball and no worse than tied with Florida for the best in baseball.

The Alabama baseball team of Coach Mitch Gaspard, ranked 15th in the nation last week, improved to 8-4 in the SEC and 22-9 at College Station. The fourth-ranked Crimson Tide softball team of Coach Patrick Murphy is now 14-1 overall and 35-5 overall.

Bama's midweek games in both baseball and softball will be against UAB. The baseball game at Sewell-Thomas Stadium will be at 6 p.m. CDT Tuesday and the softball game at Rhoads Stadium will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Tide baseball team will host Auburn in games Friday, Saturday and next Sunday, while Bama softball will travel to Mississippi State.
