Big Week For Tide Baseball, Softball

This is a big week for Alabama baseball and softball. For the Crimson Tide softball team, there is the chance to win the outright Southeastern Conference regular season championship. The Bama baseball team, tied for first in the SEC West, takes on SEC East leader Florida in a home series.

Alabama baseball lost two of three SEC games at South Carolina last week and is now tied with surging Ole Miss for the lead in the SEC West with 18-8 league records. Although Bama has led both the West and overall standings for most of the season, it was obvious that the end of the schedule would be very difficult.

That difficulty begins this weekend when the Crimson Tide hosts Florida, which is 15-6 in the league and has held on to first place in the East and taken over the outright lead among all SEC teams. The Gators are ranked among the nation's top five teams. Games at Sewell-Thomas Stadium will be at 6:35 p.m. CDT Friday, 4:05 p.m. Saturday, and 2:05 p.m. Sunday.

After this weekend, the Tide has a series at LSU, before finishing regular season play with a home series against Mississippi State.

Bama was scheduled to have a non-conference game at Samford tonight, but that game has been postponed until Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Birmingham.

The Alabama softball team of Coach Patrick Murphy secured no worse than a tie for the SEC championship winning two of three games against Georgia last weekend. Bama can wrap up the regular season title by itself with one win this weekend at Missouri. Missouri and Tennessee are mathematically able to tie for the championship if the Tigers can sweep the Tide and the Vols win three weekend games.

Alabama and Missouri meet in single games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Here are this week's SEC standings in baseball and softball. Softball does not play by divisions and Vanderbilt does not participate in softball.
