Tide coaches visit Texas pledge

Alabama's staff has been busy on the road over the last couple of weeks, and it made a stop in Texas to check out one of the Longhorns' top commitments last week.

Six weeks after Charlie Strong officially took over the storied University of Texas program, he helped snag the commitment of in-state edge rusher Charles Omenihu.

The Scout.com three-stat prospect, ranked as the No. 43 defensive end in the country at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, has been a hot commodity ever since.

The Rowlett (Tex.) standout says many banner programs have been by the school during the evaluation period to check him out in person.

"Yeah it has been busy," Omenihu said. "'Bama been after me, UF, Michigan, Michigan State, ASU, Mississippi State, Oregon, OU, TCU, Nebraska...so it's been busy.

"Coach [Billy] Napier from Alabama came last week."

Despite his pledge to Texas, which is expected to send coaches to the school on Tuesday, the edge rushing specialist was somewhat surprised by Alabama's interest.

Napier soon make a return trip, too.

"They will be back next week to film me practice and send it to Coach [Nick] Saban and then he will offer me," he said. "He (Napier) likes my length, get off, hands and my effort motor.

"They like me as an outside linebacker."

Omenihu says he plays mostly defensive end within Rowlett's 4-3 base scheme, but the potential offer from the Crimson Tide could be something he follows up on soon after it becomes a reality.

"I mean it would be something special." he said. "But then I would have to see if I would visit before I think about anything."

Below is footage of Omenihu at the Dallas Nike Football Training Camp, where Scout named him one of the standout defensive line performers in attendance.
