"(Wide receivers) Coach [Billy] Napier came to the school, (head coach) [Nick] Saban offered, and said he thought I was the best slot receiver in the 2015 class," he said.
A four-star on Scout.com at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Newsome admits that his newest offer carries some weight despite holding extensions from many of the top programs from coast to coast.
The Newsome name is big in Tuscaloosa, and the reason is because of Ozzie Newsome. It turn out that the former UA great is the junior's cousin.
"It's big time, It's Alabama," he said. "It doesn't get any bigger. I will determine how it factors into my list if everything works out and I visit in July."
As many rising-seniors are still trying to do, the junior is simply looking for a fit at the next level, though the process doesn't get easier with more and more offers coming in.
"I'm just trying to find the right fit for me," Newsome said. "For a place where I feel at home, a place that has really good connections academically and an offense that's proven.
"One that will get me the ball so I can utilize my play-making ability and get noticed for the league."
Seemingly with a long-term plan, with a reported 4.41 40-yard dash time to boast, a potential major has already been selected.
"Broadcast journalism," Newsome said. "Growing up, I just always wanted to do that. I looked up to guys like Stuart Scott, Chris Berman, etc."
Scout currently tabs him as the No. 24 wide receiver in the class of 2015.
