Proskura Advances In NCAA Tennis Singles

ATHENS, Ga. – Alabama's Daniil Proskura overcame a first-set loss to defeat Clemson's Hunter Harrington, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, in the first round of play at the NCAA Singles Championships. The Crimson Tide senior advances to the round of 32 where he will face South Carolina's Andrew Adams on Thursday.

Proskura, the leader of Coach George Cusack's Alabama team.

The first set remained on serve until late when the 48th-ranked Harrington picked up a break to lead 5-4 and eventually serve for the set victory. The entire second set would stay on serve as well, but Proskura, ranked 26th, played a solid tiebreaker to win 7-5 and send the match into a third. The final set played out much like the rest of the match with both players holding serve, however Proskura would break Harrington in the seventh game to lead 4-3, which would be all he needed to take the set, 6-4.

Proskura and Adams will be meeting for the third time this season with the most recent match coming in the Southeastern Conference Tournament where it went unfinished. In the regular-season meeting, Proskura won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
