Midlands Recruiting Mailbag (6/3/14)

Scout.com tackles questions in its weekly Midlands Recruiting Mailbag feature...

Q: James Lockhart has released his top schools list, any idea on where he may be leaning at this time?

A: In case any reading this missed it Lockhart named three national schools (Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State) and three in-state schools (Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech) in his top six. He may take a look at those out of state powerhouses, but I think you can expect him to stay in-state when it's all said and done. The early two offers that stood out the most it seemed for Lockhart were Texas an Baylor, but now that the Horns are not in the picture I think that Baylor is in a good spot, but also the offer from A&M was a big one as well.

Q: What do you know about new SMU quarterback commit Kyle Kearns?

A: He is not from the region that I cover so I do not know that much about his tape or what he brings to the table in the  pads as much, but I did have the chance to see him at the Elite regional camp in Los Angeles and took some notes on his game. Just based off of watching that one camp he seemed like an accurate passer who makes quick reads and delivers an accurate ball. I do not remember him having a huge arm, but showed well in drills outside of the pocket as well.

Q: Texas has offered TCU commit Semaj Thomas. Do you see him flipping?

A: I am saying no. Thomas has some nice offers already and Texas just adds to his list. TCU is a school that he has connections with and he is from Fort Worth, so getting him to reconsider his pledge to the Horned Frogs would be an impressive feat for the new UT staff.

Q: Who do you like in the Plano West SQT this weekend?

The Teams: (Richardson, Plano, Sachse, Frisco Liberty, Duncanville, Prosper, Denison, Lovejoy, Plano West, Dallas White, McKinney, Sherman, Frisco Heritage, Saginaw Boswell, Frisco Centennial, Lake Highlands). My picks were a little closer last week in Mesquite and this week I am taking Plano West and Sachse. However I will admit I think that this one is wide open, especially among the eight teams in pools A and B.
