Alabama Newcomers Get Their Numbers

A staple of Southeastern Conference Media Days information comes when Alabama’s reveals its fall camp roster in its media guide. It is first confirmation of the numbezrs to be worn by incoming freshmen who were not part of spring practice. There are also usually a few other changes.

Here are the numbers that have been assigned to incoming Alabama freshmen who were not a part of spring practice, according to the media guide issued at SEC Media Days.

Number 1 goes to one offensive player, running back Bo Scarbrough, and to one defensive player, back Ronnie  Clark.

Cornerback Tony Brown wore No. 2 in the spring and continues in that number, as does wide receiver senior wide receiver DeAndrew White. Safety Laurence “Hootie” Jones is in No. 6, as he was in the spring, along with senior quarterback Blake Sims. Wide receiver Cam Sims was No. 7 in the spring, as is sophomore linebacker Ryan Anderson.

Da’Shawn Hand, freshman defensive end, will be No. 9, as will junior wide receiver Amari Cooper.

As in the spring, freshman middle linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton will be No. 11 (along with soph quarterback Alex Morris), and freshman quarterback David Cornwell will be No. 12.

Transfer quarterback Jake Coker will be No. 14.

Punter J.K. Scott will be No. 15, along with redshirt freshman defensive back Jonathan Cook. Quarterback Parker McLeod was in No. 15 in the spring, but he has elected to transfer.

Walk-on linebacker Jamey Mosley, brother of former Tide star C.J. Mosley, is in No. 16. C.J.’s former number, 32, will be worn by freshman linebcker Rashan Evans.

Cornerback Marlon Humphrey is No. 29.

Freshman linebacker Chrstian Miller will share No. 34 with senior walk-on linebacker Ryler Ownes.

Defensive lineman Johnny Dwight has been issued No. 37.

Freshman walk-on linebacker Gussie Busch of St. Louis is wearing No. 38.

Linebacker Keith Holcome has been assigned No. 42.

J.C. Hassenauer, expected to be a center, is No. 63.

Offensive lineman Montel McBride (who presumably has not yet been cleared academically) is No 65.

Offensive lineman Josh Casher is No. 67.

Defensive lineman Josh Frazier is No. 69.

Offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher is No. 71, offensive tackle Cam Robinson is No. 74 (as he was in the spring), junior college transfer offensive lineman Dominick Jackson is No. 76.

Wide receiver Derek Kief has been issued No. 81 and junior college transfer tight end Ty Flournoy-Smith is No. 83.

Junior college transfer defensive end/linebacker D.J. Pettway kept the No. 57 he had in the spring, while junior college transfer defensive lineman Jarran Reed, who was No. 90 in the spring, is now 1point3 – just kidding; he kept No. 90.

Freshman defensive lineman O.J. Smith was issued No. 91.
