Friday Night Lights Ready to Roll in 2014

Summer camps have ended, and seven-on-seven competitions are winding down. The grass on the practice and game fields is freshly cut and green, and the chalk lines are being put down. It’s that time, folks. It’s time for high school football in the state of Alabama.

And this year we'll extend our coverage to the Peach State to check out Alabama connections in Georgia.

Friday Night Lights has an ambitious schedule laid out, in an effort to bring you coverage of Alabama prospects from ninth to twelfth grade around central Alabama and, this year, the Atlanta area. Here’s the schedule:

Aug. 29: Central Tuscaloosa (OL Lester Cotton) at Brookwood

Sept. 5: Shades Valley (DL Daron Payne) at Center Point

Sept. 12: Bye week

Sept. 19: Hoover (OLB/DE Christian Bell) at Thompson (DL T.J. Rayam, whose dad, Thomas, is well-known by Tide and Penn State fans)

Sept. 26: Carver-Montgomery (junior LB “Mack” Wilson) at Prattville (junior RB Kingston Davis)

Oct. 3: Hoover (junior CB P.J. Hall) at Spain Park (DB Michael Jackson)

Oct. 10: Gainesville (GA) at Lanier (junior DL Derrick Brown, who sports a Bama offer)

Oct. 17: Childersburg at Leeds (junior RB Tre Nation and QB/ATH TD Marshall)

Oct. 24: Handley at Dadeville (TE/DE Anfernee Jennings)

Oct. 31: Lakeside (GA, with OL Michael Horton) at Tucker (DE/Tide pledge Jonathan Ledbetter)

Nov. 7: “PLAYOFFS? YOU’RE TALKING PLAYOFFS?” (An ode to Jim Mora, Sr., and an effort to catch some prospects not covered in the regular season)

We will still feature the food reviews, be it a local restaurant or stadium burgers (or both).

Please join us right here for another fun year of FNL, and let’s see if we can discover some previously unknown prospects. It’s happened before. See Dareus, Marcel, and a few others along the way.

So flip on the light switch, make sure the officials’ locker room (and press box) is well-stocked with food, and let’s get ready for that opening whistle.
