Ohio State hosted one of their top offensive line targets of the entire 2015 class on a visit recently in Memphis (TN) tackle Drew Richmond. He had been to Columbus several times but was able to get one last look at the Buckeyes before making his college choice.
Richmond discussed his stay on the Ohio State campus.
"It was a great time," he said. "I spent the night there and hung out a lot with Dontre (Wilson) and Jalin (Marshall). We're pretty close. I'm close with a lot of guys on the team. Curtis Grant and I are real good friends and we always stay in contact. I love Ohio State. There's something special about that place. I have a nice relationship with a lot of guys on the team."
"It was a cool trip," Richmond added. "I really went to Friday Night Lights because of the opportunity to see Orlando Pace. He's my idol, but he ended up not showing up."
Richmond got the full attention of the Ohio State coaches while on campus. He discussed a couple conversations he had with the Buckeye staff.
"Coach Meyer told me to get up to Columbus and spend three years in a Buckeye uniform, and be off to the NFL as a first round draft pick," Richmond shared. "They've pitched that to me from day one. He really wants me to become a part of the family. Coach Warinner says that Jamarco (Jones), Demetrius (Knox), and I can run college football together and be the best offensive line in the country."
When asked what he loves about Ohio State the most, Richmond again reiterated the close relationships he's formed in Columbus.
"The camaraderie I have with everyone there is the biggest reason why I like them so much," he stated. "I already know them so well. I'm close with the coaches and I'm close with a ton of their players. They all want me to stay up there every time I visit."
Richmond is inching closer to his decision date of September 5. He spoke about how he plans to finish out the rest of his process.
"I won't narrow it down before my decision," he pointed out. "I'll just commit on that day without making a top list of any kind beforehand. I'll pick the school that feels the most like home and the one I'm most comfortable at. It's important to find the school that offers me the best chance at making my mark early on."
Aside from his Ohio State visit last weekend, Richmond also visited Tennessee the week prior. He may visit Alabama this weekend, followed by a visit to Ole Miss on August 16.
