Tide Men's Golf Gets Fall Season Started

The back-to-back defending national champion Alabama men’s golf team is tied for third place after the first round of the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate on the par-72, 7,012-yard The Farm Golf Club.

Alabama shot 2-under 286 and is five-shots back of Kennesaw State, who holds the opening-round lead at 7-under 281. LSU is in second place at 6-under 282 with North Carolina and Wake Forest in the tie for third at 2-under 286.

Sophomore Robby Shelton paced the Crimson Tide attack with a 3-under-par 69 and is tied for fifth place. He carded three birdies and a bogey on the front nine and then carded eight pars with a birdie on the par-4 14th. Sophomore Dru Love, son of Davis Love III, follows close behind in a tie for 13th at 1-under-par 71.

True freshman Jonathan Hardee shot even par 72 in his first collegiate round and is tied for 18th headed into Saturday’s second round. Tuscaloosa native Tyler Hitchner was the Tide’s fourth and final counting score with at 2-over 74. Junior Tom Lovelady’s 4-over 76 was dropped from the team score.
