Nation ‘working’ for Tide offer

Tre Nation has been to Tuscaloosa for each game of 2014 thus far, and he received plenty of attention from coaches this past weekend. The junior three-star got to speak to Nick Saban while in town, and he lets BamaMag in on the trip inside.

“I had a blast,” Tre Nation said.

It was the second weekend in a row that the three-star Leeds (Ala.) running back visited Tuscaloosa in as many opportunities alongside teammate and fellow junior standout Tadarryl Marshall. Nation garnered plenty of attention this time around, taking in a Saturday star’s latest big-time performance in the meantime.

“We watched Amari Cooper and talked to the coaches,” he said. “They said keep working and good things will happen. Coach [Kevin] Steele, [Nick] Saban, and [Mario] Cristobal. They said they liked that I ran the ball hard.

”He (Saban) said he’s been watching and he talks about us being on a roll because we’re still undefeated."

The champion coach keeping tabs on the Leeds season, and Nation’s progress as its bell cow back is part of the payoff for the 2016 standout.

The possibility of adding Alabama to the scholarship list would be big for the longtime Crimson Tide fan.

“It just lets me know I have to keep working,” he said. “It would mean everything. I’ve been working for that my whole life.

“I like the coaches, the atmosphere at Alabama. And they like to run the ball.”

The 5-foot-11, 214-pounder has been hot since late last fall, when he led Leeds to the Class 3A state title game before falling to Madison (Ala.) Academy. In the spring, Nation took home running back MVP honors at the Birmingham Nike Football Training Camp despite several 2015 prospects taking part, and it’s carried over into the 2014 season.

As Saban noted, Leeds is undefeated, after a Week 1 revenge win over Madison Academy. The backfield duo of Nation and Marshall have been among the state’s top producers on offense.

“It’s gone good so far, we just have to keep working,” he said. "I’ve improved on my blocking and my line has been making me look real good."

The 2016 pair, who have expressed plenty of interest in playing together at the next level, will take in Alabama for a third straight Saturday when the Florida Gators come to town on September 20.
