A part of the renowned Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the 72-hole tournament will be played on the Senator Course, a par-72, 6,607-yard Scottish links-style course.
Four members of Alabama’s 2012 National Championship team, including Stephanie Meadow, Jennifer Kirby, Brooke Pancake and Hannah Collier, will play at the tournament.
“I think we definitely have a very special connection and special situation,” Pancake, a 2012 graduate said. “I don't know if that's the case for every collegiate team but we were very, very close.”
The foursome had a close bond in school and still do, even if the game is no longer a team sport.
“Everyone wants to play well but we always want each other to play well too,” Kirby, who graduated in 2013, said. “It's different but we always wish each other the best because it's a lot bigger than just golf.”
Collier, who graduated in 2014, gets a chance to play in her first LPGA Tour event. She shot a 70 during Monday’s qualifier to finish first.
“I can't even express how excited I am to be here,” Collier said. “This is my first LPGA event and it was such an exciting qualifier.”
Collier will tee off from hole No. 10, Thursday at 9:09 a.m. Former teammate and current tour rookie Kirby will tee off from hole No. 10 at 7:30 a.m. (CT). Pancake, an LPGA Tour member and No. 81 on the 2014 LPGA money list, will tee off at 12:44 p.m., from hole No. 1.
Meadow has already had a successful 2014 campaign as she finished third at the U.S. Women’s Open in June. The 2014 graduate will be paired with two former UA golfers on Thursday, as well.
Jenny Suh, a two-time All American and 2007 graduate, and Kathleen Ekey, a two-time All American and 2010 graduate, will tee it up with Meadow Thursday. They will start off hole No. 1 at 12:22 p.m.
