Saban's news leaves Mitchell 'overwhelmed'

Alabama hosted countless commitments and targets on Saturday for its SEC opener against Florida, but only one known scholarship offer went out. BamaMag speaks with junior wide receiver Dillon Mitchell about his big news.

At 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, Memphis (Tenn.) White Station wide receiver Dillon Mitchell has multiple SEC offers to his name just a few games into his junior season.

On Saturday, during his first-ever visit to the University of Alabama, he added the Crimson Tide to his list.

"Nick Saban invited me in his office with my parents and it went out from there," he said. "It was great, I was overwhelmed."

Not only is the news of a champion coach wanting you on his future roster enough, but an assistant coach took it a step further and compared Mitchell to perhaps the new Heisman trophy frunt-runner.

"He (Saban) watched my last film of my junior year and was impressed. The receiver coach (Billy Napier) thinks I can be like Amari (Cooper)," he said. "It was an amazing feeling. This was a great experience and I think he's the best receiver in college."

The news of the offer came before the Crimson Tide defeated Florida, 42-21. Soon after, a big decison was nearly made. Mitchell said the thought about becoming Alabama's newest commitment "a tad bit."

"It's an exciting place, and I'm very impressed. Speechless," he said. "They're high on my list. Extremely high."
