Quick Hitter: Saban speaks with Bell

Hoover set to take on its biggest in-state opponent on Thursday night with cross-town Spain Park on the schedule, but Bucs defensive end and Alabama commitment Christian Bell got to speak with Nick Saban the night prior for the latest on his prospects at the next level.

Hoover (Ala.) High has a big game against Hoover (Ala.) Spain Park on Thursday night, but defensive end Christian Bell had a noted Wednesday night as well.

He was able to get on the phone with Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban. It was a routine conversation for the three-star Crimson Tide commitment though one of his former teammates came up as well.

"He just called to check on me and we talked a little about Marlon (Humphrey)," Bell said. "He's starting to get everything together."

The Scout.com three-star prospect had an official visit to Nebraska scheduled for last weekend, but told BamaMag on Friday that "something came up" and a rescheduling wasn't necessarily imminent.

Whether the door is slightly open or not, though Bell has been on the commitment list for several months, Saban still takes the time to court one of his in-state pledges.

"It's the same as if I wasn't committed, but I recruit other guys though," he said of his status with Alabama. "But they know I will sign there. We have a great connection."

As for said "other guys" he's recruiting, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder didn't want to provide many hints or give names. However, when asked about the amount of positive progress he's made in courting the group as a whole...

"Of course!" he said.

Still, Bell has not ruled out other visits. Schools like the aforementioned Cornhuskers as well as Louisville and South Carolina among others have continued to recruit the Crimson Tide pledge.

When asked about the possibility of seeing any school in addition to Alabama in the near future, the senior defered.

"I haven't thought about it," he said.

Scout tabs Bell as the No. 40 defensive end prospect in the class of 2015.
