Don’t Expect Too Much From Our Picks

The Almost Perfect Picks panel feels that expectations are too high. Pay attention to “Almost.” And even that may be too high.

Last week’s selections were somewhat like Alabama’s play against Arkansas. We had a winning record, but it wasn’t pretty.

This week will offer a new challenge, including Alabama having a home game against Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. CDT Saturday. Those picks will be coming Friday.

APP was very good on just picking winners, a 6-2 record in the eight games involving Southeastern Conference teams. We were correct on Alabama over Arkansas, Georgia over Missouri, Kentucky over Louisiana-Monroe, Ole Miss over Texas A&M, Tennessee over Chattanooga, and Vanderbilt over Charleston Southern.

We missed on LSU’s win over Florida and Mississippi State beating Auburn.

Even when we picked the correct team, such as Bama, the Tide’s 14-13 win over Arkansas, the margin was not enough to cover the published point spread and the total number of points did not come close to the over. Thus, our pick of 35-21 would have been a loser on both gambling opportunities.

In fact, on those point spread and over-under situations, we were 2-4 against the line and 3-3 on the over-under. So we remind you, don’t expect the APP to help you make a profit.

For the year, the APP is 53-10 in picking the winner, but only 57-36 in gambling opportunities.
