UA Freshman JK Scott Is Ray Guy Semifinalist

University of Alabama freshman JK Scott was named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award Friday. The semifinalists were chosen from a field of 82 candidates for the award, which recognizes the most outstanding punter in college football.

Scott, from Denver, Colo., is the Crimson Tide’s second straight Ray Guy Award semifinalist, joining Cody Mandell in 2013. Scott is one of 10 semifinalists in 2014 and is averaging an Alabama-record 47.1 yards per punt on 36 attempts. He has landed 18 of those punts inside the 20-yard line with 14 kicks over 50 yards and four over 60 with a long of 66. He has also forced 10 fair catches and surrendered just 50 punt return yards on the season.

The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 pm CT on ESPN. The show, hosted by ESPN’s Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard.

Voting to select three finalists for the 2014 Ray Guy Award is open Tuesday, Nov. 18, until Sunday Nov. 23. Voting is open to sports information directors, previous winners, head coaches, and a selection of media.
