Although the Legends Poll got ahead of the others in putting Alabama at number one, the top four looks very familiar, although the coaches give a little more credence to things like “undefeated” and “head to head” than do the voters on the College Football Playoff poll.
The big news – if any – is expected to come at the end of this weekend, which is Rivalry Week. That is particularly true for the top four. Alabama will be hosting Auburn, No. 2 Florida State will be hosting Florida in what will be Gators Coach Will Muschamp’s final game, No. 3 Oregon will meet Oregon State in the Civil War, and No. 4 Mississippi State travels to Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl.
There will be another big week of conference championship games the following week.
Alabama received 11 of 13 first place votes with the other two (one from former FSU Coach Bobby Bowden the other from former BYU Coach Lavell Edwards) going to the Seminoles. Both Bowden and Edwards had Bama second.
All 13 coaches had the same four teams in the top four spots.
After the top four in the Legends Poll were 5. Baylor, 6. TCU, 7. Ohio State, and 8. Georgia. UCLA would have been ninth and Missouri 10th, although the Legends Poll is a Top 8 by design – the coaches believing the College Football Playoff needs to be eight teams.
