Alabama Hosts Auburn In Foster Tonight

How much would you pay to see an Alabama-Auburn game? Wait a minute, though. It’s the Crimson Tide women’s basketball team hosting the Tigers. Also, it’s on television, Fox Sports South. And the combined Southeastern Conference record of the two teams is 0-10.

Alabama hosts Auburn at 8 p.m. today (Thursday, Jan. 22, in Foster Auditorium.

Admission is one dollar.

Also, there are about a half dozen promotions – giveaways and sororities getting a Panhellinic point for each girl in attendance.

Alabama is 11-9 overall and Auburn is 9-9. Both teams are 0-5 in SEC games.

Thursday’s game will be the 81st meeting between Alabama and Auburn and will be the first of two games in the series this season. The Crimson Tide has won 35 of the previous games, while the Tigers have claimed 45 wins in the series. Auburn has won three straight games against Alabama, including a 70-65 double overtime victory in the last meeting, which occurred on Feb. 27, 2014 in Auburn.

Alabama fell to No. 15/18 Mississippi State, 66-50, in the Crimson Tide’s lone contest last week. Freshman Meoshonti Knight notched double figures for the third straight game to lead Alabama in scoring with 13 points, while sophomore Ashley Williams was just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Through five league games, Knight leads the Tide in scoring with an average of 11.2 points per contest.

Auburn, like Alabama, played four ranked teams through its first five conference games in South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. Auburn is averaging 61.3 points per game, led by junior Tra’Cee Tanner’s 12.8 point-per-game contribution. The Tigers are balanced on the boards with four players averaging 4-5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Katie Frerking leads the way with 5.7 rebounds per outing. Auburn is 1-5 on the road this season. >
