Pitching, Hitting Give Bama Big Win

HOOVER – The Alabama pitching staff combined for its second consecutive shutout on Saturday afternoon, blanking the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 11-0, inside Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 2-0 on the young season.

In his first career start, junior-college transfer Will Carter tossed seven innings, recording six strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Alex Watkins and J.C. Wilhite each contributed one inning apiece for Alabama, and combined for three strikeouts.

The Crimson Tide offense provided a cushion for the pitching staff for a second straight night, knocking 14 hits and 11 runs. The offensive attack was led by Casey Hughston, with the sophomore contributing a 4-for-4 day and reaching base all five times thanks to a hit-by-pitch. The Tide also received big games from Mikey White and Kyle Overstreet as the junior duo contributed multi-hit and multi-RBI afternoons.

Alabama and Maryland Eastern Shore will wrap up the weekend Sunday afternoon. First pitch for the series finale between the Tide and Hawks is set for 1:05 p.m. CT with the game airing on SECN+.
