Tide Gymnasts Host No. 1 Oklahoma Friday

After 10 top-25 meets in a row, the No. 5 Alabama gymnastics team closes out the 2015 regular season hosting No. 1 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. CDT Friday in Coleman Coliseum. It marks the second time this season that Alabama has faced the nation’s top-ranked team at home, beating then No. 1 Florida on Jan. 23.

“I think having the best team in country in your gym is the best preparation going into the championship season,” Alabama Coach Dana Duckworth said. “You look at the depth and level of competition we’ve faced – we’ve seen the best, we’ve gone against the best – and that’s what you want to do to prepare for championships.

It will also be Senior Night as the Crimson Tide honors Kaitlyn Clark, Hunter Dennis, Lora Leigh Frost and Kayla Williams. The quartet has been part of the Tide’s 2012 NCAA Championship as freshmen, have won three NCAA regional titles as well as the 2014 Southeastern Conference Championship.

“This senior class is electric,” Duckworth said. “This is the last time that they’ll be competing at home and no one is going want to miss that.”

Coming into the Friday night, Alabama has posted seven scores of 197-plus, including the last six in a row. The Tide has used between 9 and 12 gymnasts in its competitive lineup through its first 10 meets this season. Overall, 16 different gymnasts have gone in the Tide’s competitive lineup in at least one meet this season.

After posting a season-best 49.525 on the uneven bars last weekend against Auburn, Alabama has now gone 49.5 or better on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise this season. The Tide has also posted a season-best 49.425 on the balance beam.

Individually, over its last three meets, Alabama has gotten season-best performances up and down its lineup, with junior Lauren Beers and senior Kaitlyn Clark leading the charge with 11 scores of 9.9 or better between them.

Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum and online at RollTide.com
