Baseball Series At Florida Begins Today

It seems it will never let up for Alabama’s baseball team. The Crimson Tide opened Southeastern Conference play at Mississippi State and then hosted Texas A&M, an undefeated top five team, in its second week. Now comes fourth-ranked Florida on the road beginning tonight.

Alabama and Florida meet in a Thursday-Saturday series with games at 6:30 p.m. CDT Thursday and Friday and the final on noon Saturday. Tonight’s game is on the SEC Network.

Both the Crimson Tide and Gators are 3-3 in SEC games. Last week the Tide was 1-2 against Texas A&M and Florida 1-2 against Ole Miss. Bama is 13-10 overall, Florida 21-5.

Alabama and Florida have a history of 109 games with the Crimson Tide having a one-game advantage in the series, 55-54.

Alabama will continue its pitching rotation of senior left-hander Taylor Gilbeau Thursday, junior right-hander Will Carter on Friday, and sophomore right-hander Geoffrey Bramblett on Saturday. Florida will give right-hander Aaron Rhodes his first start of the season tonight. Left-hander A.J. Puk is scheduled for Friday and right-hander Dane Dunning on Saturday.

UA is led offensively by Casey Hughston and Mikey White, both team leaders in almost all statistical categories.

Hughston ranks second in the SEC in doubles (10), third in RBI (26) and total bases (61), fourth in slugging (.701), and seventh in batting (.402). The junior is also the UA’s leader in doubles, homers, RBI, and slugging percentage.

Alabama is also receiving a strong offensive effort from White. The junior shortstop is tied for the league lead in triples (5), while ranking fourth in average (.410), fifth in on-base (.485) and slugging (.699), and sixth in runs (25) and total bases (58).
