Tide Softball Home Games This Week

Alabama softball is coming off a series win against the nation’s 23rd ranked team, Texas A&M, but the Crimson Tide couldn’t be too happy about letting the sweep get away when the Aggies won the final game on Sunday. “A crappy day,” is the way Bama Coach Patrick Murphy put it.

Before Alabama can get back into Southeastern Conference action, the Crimson Tide has a couple of interesting non-conference, mid-week games at Rhoads Stadium. Bama will host Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. CDT today (Tuesday, March 31) and will host Southern Mississippi at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Alabama is 25-8 overall and ranked fifth in the nation. The Tide is getting it done with pitching and defense. Bama is tied for best defense in the SEC at .976 and is one of four teams with an overall ERA of less than 2.00 and leads the league in conference games with a 1.98.

Alabama offense could have an awakening tonight, though.

The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes (don’t expect to see all of that on a jersey) have struggled to an 8-26 record. And every one of those 34 games has been on the road. Most telling statistic is that its pitching staff has a collective ERA of 10.90.

Alabama is 10-0 all-time against the Delta Devilettes.

Southern Miss is just under .500 on the year with a 16-18 record. The Golden Eagles snapped a 10-game losing streak with a win over UTEP Saturday, but suffered a Sunday loss. A good bet is that junior Morgan McKeever will be in the lineup for USM. She has started all 34 games this year and leads the team with a .402 average.

The Tide leads the all-time series, 6-2.

Following the two non-conference home games, Alabama goes to Kentucky for a three-game series, Friday-Sunday.
