Tide Womens' Tennis Blanks Auburn, 4-0

The No. 12 Alabama women’s tennis team defeated the visiting Auburn Tigers by a final score of 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The match was also the team’s annual Power of Pink initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer research.

Alabama earned its 17th doubles point of the season to begin the match, and secured three consecutive singles victories to stamp its seventh shutout victory of the season.

No. 4 Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen sailed to an 8-1 victory over Auburn’s No. 10 court one pairing to open doubles play, improving to a commanding 17-1 on the season. Securing the point for the Tide was Danielle Spielmann and Luice Perez – now 9-1 since the start of the conference season – who locked down an 8-4 victory on court three. Natalia Maynetto and Emily Zabor were leading 6-5 on court two when the point was won.

The Tide carried its momentum into singles play, as Maynetto locked down a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory on court four to begin the round. Jansen was next to finish for the Tide, extending the lead to 3-0 with a 7-6(6), 6-1 win on court three. Jansen trailed the tiebreaker 6-1 in her first set, before rallying to win eight straight points to secure her team-leading 14th singles victory on the season. Erin Routliffe clinched the match for Alabama, taking a 7-6(1), 6-1 decision on court one.

Alabama concludes its regular season when it welcomes Arkansas and Missouri to Tuscaloosa for another Friday/Sunday series next weekend. The Tide and Razorbacks will square off on Friday at 5:00 p.m. CT, ahead of Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. CT first serve with the Tigers.
