Tide Women's Tennis Hosting In NCAA

he Alabama women’s tennis team was selected as the No. 13 seed in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship, the NCAA announced on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide will host the first and second rounds for the fourth consecutive season on May 8 and 9, welcoming Clemson, Samford and South Alabama to the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

“I’m really proud of the team and the way we have battled all season long,” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. “Being selected to host for the fourth consecutive year is a testament to hard work that we’ve been putting in all season. I’m honored that we have the opportunity to play in front of our fans again.” Alabama will square off with Samford in the opening round on Friday, May 8 at 4 p.m. The match will be preceded by the Clemson/South Alabama match that is slated for a 1 p.m. CT first serve. The winners of both matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. CT. “Like I’ve said all season long, our motto is one match at a time and this is no different,” said Mainz. “Samford is a really good team and we are looking forward to getting back out there and opening the tournament with them.” The Crimson Tide enters the NCAA Championship Tournament with a 17-7 record, including an 8-5 mark against Southeastern conference opponents. The Tide has been anchored all season by dominant doubles play, winning 19 of 23 possible doubles points thus far. Reigning NCAA doubles champions Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen landed atop the national doubles rankings to conclude regular season play. The Tide’s No. 1 duo carried a perfect 15-0 record into week nine of the conference season, and currently own a commanding 18-1 (9-1 SEC) record for the dual match season. Alabama also has the top half of its singles lineup ranked nationally, including Routliffe (38) and Jansen (58) who have combined for 26 individual victories.
