Tide Women’s Golf Begins NCAA Play

Alabama’s women’s golf team was to get an early start on preparation for the NCAA Regional in Raleigh, N.C. The tournament begins Thursday, but the Crimson Tide was to get in a practice round beginning at 9:22 a.m. EDT Wednesday.

But it will be even earlier for Alabama when play begins Thursday over the par-72 Lonnie Poole Golf Club. Bama’s first round starts at 7:30 a.m. EDT from the first team. The Crimson Tide is paired with Furman and Iowa State in round one of the 54-hole tournament.

Alabama is the4 eighth seed in the regional, which ends Saturday. The top six finishers at the NCAA Raleigh Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., May 22-27. Other regionals are being held at South Bend, Ind., San Antonio, Texas, and St. George, Utah.

This is the 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament invitation for the Crimson Tide under Coach Mic Potter. Alabama won the national championship in 2012 at the Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. Potter arrived at The Capstone prior to the 2005-06 season and Bama has qualified for an NCAA Regional each season and advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournament the past nine years.

The 2015 selection is the 17th NCAA appearance in school history. For Potter, the regional berth marks the 22nd consecutive appearance by a team under his direction. The Hall of Fame coach has now led a team to a regional bid in each season since the format came into existence in 1993.
