Alabama Softball Holds On In Top 10

Alabama enters the NCAA Softball Tournament ranked No. 5 in the USA Today/NFCA poll and No. 6 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

Alabama dropped one spot in each poll from last week after going 1-1 at the SEC Tournament in Baton Rouge, La. Alabama has been ranked in the top 10 all season and also earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Oregon is the top team in the NFCA poll while Florida edged out the Ducks in the USA Softball poll. Michigan and Auburn are a unanimous No. 3 and 4 in each poll while the Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners are each ranked fifth in one poll and sixth in the other.

The SEC has a total of eight ranked teams, including five in the top 10: Florida (2/1), Auburn (4/4), Alabama (5/6), LSU (8/7), Tennessee (10/9), Missouri (12/13), Georgia (14/16), and Texas A&M (24/25). A record 11 SEC teams qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, including five in the top eight and a total of seven regional hosts.

As the No. 6 seed, Alabama will host an NCAA Regional round in Tuscaloosa for the 11th straight season, welcoming Washington, USC Upstate and Fairfield. Washington and USC Upstate will begin play on Friday at 12:30 p.m. CDT on ESPNU with Alabama and Fairfield to follow at 3 p.m. on the SEC Network.
