Tide Men's Golf Opens In Seventh

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Alabama men’s golf team fought its way through the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Regionals, finishing with a 10-over par 298 on Thursday. The Crimson Tide will enter the second round in seventh position overall.

Junior Tom Lovelady and sophomore Robby Shelton led 20th-ranked Alabama, as each carded a 2-over par 74 on the 7,173-yard Sagamore Club golf course in Noblesville, Ind. The duo will enter Friday’s second round in a tie for 22nd overall. Freshman Jonathan Hardee and sophomore Dru Love are in a tie for 32nd position with a 3-over par 75, while sophomore Robby Prater rounded out the Crimson Tide’s individuals with an 82.

Colorado, which entered the regional ranked 48th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, scorched the course with an 11-under par 277. The Buffaloes lead top-ranked Illinois and No. 24 SMU by eight strokes as both teams will enter the round in a tie for second overall at 3-under par 285. UCLA, ranked 17th in the nation, round out the top five teams with a 293.

The top five finishers at the NCAA Noblesville Regional will advance to the 2015 NCAA Championships, which will be held at the Concession Golf Club on May 29-June 3 in Bradenton, Fla

The Crimson Tide will be paired with Georgia Southern and Alabama State during Friday’s second round. The teams will tee off on hole No. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Live scoring throughout the regional can be found on Golfstat.com.
