Thomas’ weekend was highlighted by a second round course record of 61, while his final round of 6-under par 66 clinched the victory. Thomas, who claimed a $1.26 million prize with the victory, becomes the first Crimson Tide golfer to win a PGA Tour event since Michael Thompson won the 2013 Honda Classic.
"I still can't believe what happened," Thomas said to PGAtour.com following the win. "I made that par to clinch the title. I don't care how I got it done; it just feels awesome."
Thomas’ Alabama career was highlighted by being named the 2012 Haskins Award and the Nicklaus Award, presented to the National Player of the Year. He was also honored with the Phil Mickelson Award, as the National Freshman of the Year, that same season, becoming the first Alabama player to capture those honors. Thomas, who helped lead Alabama to the 2013 national championship, won his first collegiate event and never looked back, garnering a school-record four medalists honors and nine top-10 finishes that season.
