Two-time state champion and top 10 DE in 2017 Ryan Johnson adds Alabama offer, to soon visit

Ryan Johnson was busy in ACC country this week on a visit tour when he received big news from the SEC mainstays and national champion Alabama Crimson Tide.

The last three months have been good for Scout100 junior Ryan Johnson. He helped Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's Episcopal win another state championship in December, participated at the Under Armour Future 50 event in January (video above) and he continues to add big-time scholarship offers along the way.

On Tuesday, while capping an ACC visit tour at North CarolinaDuke and Clemson, he was on the phone with national champion Alabama. He received more good news.

"I was able to find out about the Alabama offer by calling coach (Jeremy) Pruitt," Johnson said. "And I talked to coach (Nick) Saban, who extended the offer to me.

"It was amazing and it had me speechless hearing it from Coach Saban and talking to him again."

The four-star prospect has long been coveted by the national champs, but at some points he wondered if the verbal offer would come down.

"He (Saban) just told me how they want me and how I'm a special player that would fit well into their system," he said. "He told me I'd be able to play the 5 or 6-technique to defend against the run and pass-rush."

Johnson, who notched four tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss in the state championship win over Morris (Ala.) Mortimer Jordan at Bryant-Denny Stadium, will return to Tuscaloosa for a junior day event on February 27. He may visit Miami (Fl) the week prior.
