There isn't a hotter offensive prospect in the state of Alabama than Millbrook (Ala.) Stanhope Elmore tight end Zechariah Byrd. The class o 2017 prospect has added offers from Florida, Mississippi, Kentucky, Virginia Tech and others in the last week alone.
On Friday, he was in Tuscaloosa and added another SEC extension, straight from Nick Saban.
"'Bama offered me tonight," he said. "I'm excited. I came up here and Coach Saban offered me.
"He told me to keep working and to stay in the books. On the field he said he liked what he saw on my Hudl tape."
Measuring in at 6-foot-6, 232 pounds while in town for the unofficial visit, Byrd admits he grew up following the Crimson Tide along with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
But all of the attention and offers, while having zero during his junior season, has caused him to take a step back.
"I feel blessed, because I been working so hard and I 've been thinking I haven't been working hard enough because I wasn't getting offered," Byrd said. "But I let go and let God handle it, and he has, man. I'm so proud of myself, and my parents and everyone that helped me along the way."
The big tight end claims no favorites at this time and he does not have a timetable for a decsion.
"I don't know my next step, I'm going to just continue working and progressing," Byrd said.
