The Alabama Crimson Tide hosted many top in-state prospects over the weekend with offers and many who could be closing in on good news.
Long Montgomery (Ala.) Jefferson Davis defensive back Zyon Gilbert was among the latter, and he heard from new defensive back coach Derrick Ansley while in town.
"It was great, it was my second time there," he said. "They are really interested in me, hopefully they talk to me more about offering me.
"He's good, seems like he knows what he is talking about and will make a big contribution to the program."
When asked what stood about this time around in Tuscaloosa, Gilbert was simple.
"Everything, I felt like I was at home," he said. "The campus is great and so are the facilities and so are the community and the people around and in the community."
An admitted Alabama fan growing up, the thought of a scholarship offer from the national champs actually made him think about another person in the household.
"It would mean a lot to me and my family, especially my mother," he said. "She's the biggest Alabama fan I know, she doesn't miss a game that comes on TV. She's the loudest in the house, always yelling and rooting for Alabama.
"If I get offered I can just imagine here watching me playing for Alabama and rooting from the stands."
Gilbert, who holds in-state offers from South Alabama and Troy, says UA or South Carolina could be next in. He'll soon visit Columbia unofficially.
