Alabama Men’s Basketball Coach Avery Johnson Looks to Contribute at SEC Spring Meeting 2016

Avery Johnson felt like the “new kid on the block” at last year’s SEC Spring Meeting. Not anymore for the loquacious hardwood bench jockey. He is anxious to infuse the conversation with suggestions and ideas particularly on improving the league’s chances of having more teams reach the NCAA Tournament.

The second-year Alabama men’s basketball coach provided the assembled media with an update on the program.   Every class of 2016 signee, redshirts and transfers along with scholarship players are enrolled and on campus.  Today is the first day of the summer session.  Each player will have a physical in the next 24-48 hours in preparation for the first individual workout to be held on Thursday.

Avery Johnson gave a medical progress report on combo guard Dazon Ingram (fractured left foot) and forward Shannon Hale (injured foot) in the nearly 11-minute interview.  Other topics broached included non-conference scheduling, a desire to play an in-state game at a venue away from Coleman Coliseum, depth at the point guard position, roster management and the proverbial UAB question.
