Alabama’s non-conference men’s basketball schedule includes game at Texas

Alabama men’s basketball will play home games in Birmingham and Huntsville

Alabama Basketball Coach Avery Johnson had an extravaganza presentation of the Crimson Tide’s upcoming non-conference basketball schedule at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in suburban Birmingham. The schedule features games against Texas, Dayton, and Clemson and there will be games in Birmingham (Clemson) and Huntsville (Arkansas State).

Johnson on schedule philosophy. “We have to have a balanced schedule. We can’t play five top 10 teams and we can’t play 10 teams with a 300 RPI. We thought we did a good job last year. People thought that schedule was too tough. But we won some games and even in some losses I think it helped us.”

Here are the games as announced by members of the 2016-17 Alabama team:

Daniel Giddens, transfer redshirt soph, announced exhibition game – Nov. 3, Faulkner University coached by Scott Sanderson, son of Wimp Sanderson (who was on hand. Wimp said he would officiate that game).

Dazon Ingram, coming off injury, redshirt freshman, announced season opener – Nov. 11, Coastal Carolina, coached by former Auburn Coach Cliff Ellis.

Jimmy Taylor, senior, announced – Nov. 15, Dayton, second of two-game series, played in Dayton last year. Dayton has been in NCAA Tournament last three years.

Corban Collins, graduate transfer from Morehead State, announced – Nov. 21 vs. Valporaiso in Las Vegas (followed by Nov. 23 either St. Louis or BYU).

Brandon Austin, sophomore, announced – Nov. 29 vs. Charleston Southern.

Sophomore walk-on guard Lawson Schaffer and walk-on junior forward Christian Clark announced – Dec. 15 vs. South Carolina-Upstate.

Junior college transfer Ar’mond Davis announced – Vulcan Classic in Birmingham Dec. 18 vs. Clemson. “We love to play in Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, but it’s part of a strategic (recruiting) plan to take the team around the state,” said Johnson.
