Four USC Coaches Tied To State Of Alabama

Although two thousand plus miles separate traditional iconic college football programs Alabama and USC, four members of the Trojans coaching staff have ties to the Yellow Hammer state. One played and coached for the Tide. Two played for the arch rivals of Bama and the other was a fan since childhood having been born in the state.

Veteran Offensive Line Coach Neil Callaway was a lineman and linebacker (1974-77) for Coach Paul W. Bryant.  He was an assistant at his Alma Mater, Alabama, for four seasons (1997-2000).

USC Head Coach Clay Helton was a reserve quarterback at Auburn (1990-92) before transferring to Houston.  Mobile born Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach Tee Martin prepped at Williamson HS (AL) before becoming a signal caller at Tennessee (1996-99).  Running Backs/Run Game Coordinator Tommie Robinson was a strong safety for Troy (1982-85).  Born in Phenix City, AL, he prepped at Central HS and is the brother-in-law of former Alabama linebacker, Eddie Lowe (1980-82).

BamaMag.com visited with assistants Callaway and Robinson after the Trojans practice as they prepare for the 2016 Cowboys Classic.  Alabama meets USC on September 3rd, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
