Trojans DC Prepares to Attack Alabama Offense

Alabama has set many passing records since the arrival of Nick Saban in 2007 but astute defensive coordinators realize the Tide is the Nouveau Riche program hailed as Tailback U. Two Heisman Trophy winners along with a host of top echelon runners have set the tone for the Bama offense.

Veteran college and NFL Defensive Coordinator Clancy Pendergast has a reputation for implementing pressure defenses designed to create havoc for opposing offenses.  Concentration first and foremost will be to disrupt the Bama ground attack.  USC returns six starters on defense but only one on the frontline, senior DE, Scott Felix (6-2, 240 pounds).  A primary goal throughout the spring and preseason camp is to find capable replacements.  The Trojans will be employing an aggressive 5-2 scheme that is flexible enough to run a 3-4 and 4-3.

BamaMag.com met with Pendergast after practice on Friday to discuss the Trojans personnel and opening game against Alabama on September 3rd to be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
