It’s an open weekend for Alabama’s number one ranked football team, but anther Crimson Tide squad that is first in the nation will be finishing up its fall schedule in North Carolina.
The Alabama women’s golf team of Coach Mic Potter will play in the Landfall Tradition hosted by North Carolina-Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall Friday-Sunday.
Bama has made six previous appearances in the prestigious tournament and took the championship in 2013.
The Tide has four golfers ranked among the nation’s top 20 in college play this year. Sophomore Cheyenne Knight enters the weekend as the No. 5-rated golfer in the nation in the latest Golfstat statistical rankings. Knight ( averaging 69.22) is joined in the top 20 by three of her teammates: sophomore Lauren Stephenson (69.56) is tied for ninth, junior Lakareber Abe (70.17) is 16th, and freshman Kristen Gillman (70.44) is 18th.
Knight has three top 10 finishes in three outings this season, including a victory in Mason Rudolph Championship to open the season. Stephenson has two second place finishes in three outings - the Mason Rudolph and, most recently, the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational Oct. 14-16 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Alabama’s team average score of 71.16 is just ahead of Florida State (71.18). UCLA (71.68) is third, Southern Cal (71.84) fourth, and Oklahoma (72..38) fifth.
